Our Story
About us
The Story Begins
A Legacy Built on Flavor & Community
Originally from Argalasti, Greece, Nick Filippou came to the United States in 1969 with determination, faith, and a dream of building something of his own. In 1970, he opened his first restaurant, Nick's Pizza, now known as Wooden Duck, beginning a lifelong journey centered on great food and bringing people together. Nick expanded his journey in 1972 by opening another restaurant on the corner of French town. Six years later, in 1978, he purchased Filippou’s Pizza on Ten Rod Road, laying the foundation for a lasting legacy in the local restaurant community. Through years of hard work, perseverance, and a passion for hospitality, Nick went on to open multiple restaurants, at one point operating as many as four locations and sharing his love of food with generations of customers.

Honoring Our Roots
Continuing Nick’s Legacy
Today, Steve and Joanne Filippou, founders of the renowned Twisted Pizza with four locations, are bringing their passion for food and family to Oak Hill Tavern & Saloon in North Kingstown. In loving memory of Steve’s beloved father, Nick, they are carrying forward his spirit and guiding philosophy: feeding others and bringing people together. While preserving Oak Hill’s well-known wood-smoked BBQ, they’re expanding the menu with a variety of favorites inspired by their Grecian roots, including Nick & Georgia’s original pizza recipes, appetizers, burgers, pasta, and seafood dinners. With a commitment to fresh ingredients, quality, and variety, Steve and Joanne look forward to serving the North Kingstown community. Stop by, enjoy a great meal, and don’t forget to say hello to our mascot!
